• Mold Prevention

Storage: If you find yourself with large cupboards, garages, and closets stuffed full of boxes laying on the ground then it is important to know how to properly store your items. All storage should be moved up, roughly 3-5 inches off of the ground. With cupboards, try to stay away from wooden shelves as moisture loves inhabiting those areas. Try to use metal or plastic shelving.

Humidity: Always try to keep the humidity levels below 50% in areas such as your basement, bathroom, and kitchen. Also, drainage around your foundation and keeping your gutters clean & clear is a great moisture prevention method.

Avoiding Carpets: You are not the only one that thinks carpet is more comfortable. Mold spores love carpet which makes them one of the most sought out mold reproduction areas. Especially in basements, having carpets in your basement is like doubling down in blackjack. You are pretty much giving mold the perfect environment to grow.

Air Filter: If you have never thought about an air filter, now might be the time. Try to find filters with a MERV rating between 6-8 or over 11 if the family to prone to allergies. Not only will an air filter help combat allergies it will significantly help reduce the among of fungi spores in the air.

Insulation: The duct system that carries heat and cool air throughout the rooms in your house must have sufficient insulation. What happens is if you don’t have insulation is the cool & warm air will collide and create condensation which is a hot spot for mold spores to grow.
